Massage Time services are provided based on time, care, and skill
How long has Massage Time been in operation ?
Massage Time has been operational in it's current capacity since 1996.
What services does Massage Time provide ?
Massage Time provides services that seek to optimise physical performance. In essence, this may include recovery from an injury, relief from aches and pain, and / or preparation and maintenance of the body’s soft tissues for activity.
These services are provided to people of all ages and all abilities.
What's the difference between 'massage' and 'soft tissue therapy' ?
At Massage Time, 'massage', if indicated, is used as a technique, not a therapy in itself. Massage may be used as a therapy in itself, for example, Swedish Massage, is a therapy designed to promote relaxation of the body’s muscles without any specific intent. A Swedish Massage therapist usually will not conduct any clinical assessment or develop a treatment plan.
Our therapists' skill, education, experience, and intent afford us, and our clients the benefit of drawing on the very best treatment techniques from a variety of therapies. The 'therapy' that we practice is 'soft tissue therapy'. As an illustration, physiotherapists, like soft tissue therapists, may use some massage, some electrical therapy, some osteopathic techniques, and/or some stretches or exercise strategies.
So how do you define what you do, and when you do it ?
At Massage Time, we either treat an ache, pain, or injury; prepare soft tissues for activity; or we rejuvenate soft tissues after activity. Most often, we are either attempting to increase or decrease the tone (or tension) in a muscle/s. This is achieved through mobilising the body’s soft tissues or can be achieved by loosening muscles or strengthening muscles.
We treat according to signs, symptoms, and clinical assessments.
What are 'soft tissues' ?
'Soft tissues' are the structures of the body that are quite simply, soft. They include muscles, ligaments, tendons, nerves, and other connective tissues. An example of hard tissue is bone.
Should I have a recovery treatment after an event ?
This truly depends on the reason for the treatment and what the therapist is attempting to achieve. Classically, we are advised to have a 'massage' after competing in a triathlon, fun run, or other aerobic activity, to 'remove toxins from the body'. This in itself is a flawed statement as there is no physiological 'toxin' that has been shown to be removed from the body through 'massage'. To the contrary, research has shown that a recovery treatment too soon after an event can actually elevate the level of inflammation in the bodies soft tissues, therefore, creating a worse environment for recovery.
We recommend, after an aerobic activity, to walk or slow run for an additional 10 -20 minutes after the event, then 90 minutes later soak in a very warm bath with epsom salts, then 2 hours later go for another 20-30 min walk, all the while replacing your fluids with alkaline water.

Why do you charge GST ?
The Federal government deem that the services we provide are a luxury to the end user, rather than a legitimate form of treatment for neuromusculoskeletal pain. Our Industry Association continues to provide research evidence and anectodal evidence, to government, supporting the ascertion that our services contribute significantly to the overall health of the community at large.
Are you recognised by Health Funds ?
Massage Time practitioners are registered with all participating Health Funds.
If I have been injured at work, can I get treatment from you through Workers Compensation ?
Massage Time practitioners are WorkCover approved practitioners.
If I have been injured in a MVA, can I get treatment from you through Third Party insurance ?
Generally, yes. However, we do require a doctors referral and approval by the Insurer
How long is a treatment ?
Usually, if we are seeing you for the first time, we recommend an hour long treatment / assessment as we will take a detailed history and thoroughly assess any presenting condition or injury that you may have. Thereafter, we may only need to see you for 20-30 minute treatments.
Do you ‘crack’ backs or necks ?
No. We are highly specialised in "soft tissue" treatment. Manipulation is not within the scope of our practice; it is not how we achieve results for our clients.
How often should I have treatment for an injury ?
Of course, this depends on the nature and extent of an injury or ailment. There are occassions where we are able to completely resolve aches, pains, or injuries within one treatment. On the other hand, you may need to see us twice a week initially and thereafter, once a fortnight. This is taken on a case by case basis.
How often should I have treatment to improve my overall general health ?
Once we have your body in good condition, we recommend that your treatment / maintenance program be related to your level of activity.
How much are your services ?
Our approach to soft tissue treatmetn is unique - as such, we are able to offer a sliding scale in relation to our fee- for- services. After your initial consultation, we may make recommendations related to your treatment strategy. Our recommendations may include a series of treatments and / or some take home exercises or stretches, therefore, the fee per treatment becomes less.
Do your treatments have side-effects ?
Usually related to longer term aches, pains, injuries, there are occassions, in a very small percentage of clients, where symptoms may be aggrevated in the shorter term after a treatment. Our unique approach to treatments often works fast, and as a result, your body may be overwhlemed for an hour or two after treatment while it adjusts. You may feel a little nausea or light-headedness, but, generally, this will be coupled with a very positive relief from your signs and symptoms. In short, the "good" will outweigh any side effects.
What should I do after my treatment to maximise the benefits of the treatment ?
After treatment, you need not do anything too strenuous. We advise drinking around 2 litres of water within the 2 hours after your treatment (alkanline water being optimal). If you have been advised to partake in specific stretches or some light exercises (perhaps with a theraband), then, it is very advisable to comply with your treatment strategy.
Is what you do different from other types of therapies ?
Our intent, in working with you, is to create the body that works best for you. Balanced, nourished, and flexible "soft tissues" function much. much better when they are treated with respect. Your soft tissues work tirelessly for you day in, day out - the process of soft tissue therapy is like repaying those muscles for the work they do for you.
